Marcos Tefara Hayamo

Hometown: Yirgalem

Living in: Awassa

Church: Mulu Wongel

Marital status: Married (to Ayelech Kebede)

Children: Ephraim (10), Menasse (7), Amen (4 months)

Salvation experience: Marcos was born into a family who practiced a traditional African religion.  Some of his family members were possessed by demonic spirits.  He also was affected by this demonic influence.  He was a good student who was well-adjusted and well-liked, yet he would become terrified at night as the demons would torment him.  One day, a friend took him to an evangelist who prayed for him and set him free from his bondage.  From that point on (7th grade) he followed Jesus Christ.

Note: Almost every one of Marcos' family members are worshipping God today!

Life and ministry experience / Present ministry: Marcos understood who Jesus Christ was, and his heart was touched deeply by the love of Christ - this enabled him to go through persecution (imprisoned for 7 years beginning in 9th grade) during the Communist regime.  When he was released, he went back to high school and became a high school fellowship leader for his school.

After high school, Marcos felt called to serve the Lord as a full-time minister.  He shared his burden with his church leaders and they accepted him as the pastor of their small church (only 10 people).  Except for four years of Bible school, Marcos has continued to pastor this same church, which has grown considerably under his leadership. Last year, he began to work on his Masters of Divinity at Nairobi International School of Theology in Kenya, and is dividing his time between Ethiopia and Kenya.

Vision for the future: Wants to be a missionary to Mozambique - this has been a longtime dream.  Wants to train people especially in the areas of evangelism, church planting, and Bible schools. Is believing Philippians 4:13, that he can do all things through Christ, who gives him strength.

Prayer requests:

  • That God would provide financial support for his school
  • That God would bless him financially for the edification of God’s people
  • That God would bless his children
  • That he would be able to effectively share what God has done for him - for God’s glory and for people's edification!
  • That he would finish his race as a faithful minister of God; that he would finish well
